Casa de Internet in Montevideo, Uruguay with representatives from regional organizations that deal with security, stability and resiliency of the DNS - LACNIC, LACTLD, .CO Internet and the Internet Society

On 29-30 January, we met at the Casa de Internet in Montevideo, Uruguay with representatives from regional organizations that deal with security, stability and resiliency of the DNS – LACNIC, LACTLD, .CO Internet and the Internet Society. The goal was to discuss challenges for the region, and that this in turn will help feed project 3 in the LAC Strategy (see https://community.icann.org/display/lacstrtgy), focusing on Security, Stability and Resiliency capacity building for the DNS in the region.

The participants from the regional organizations conducted brainstorming on needs of the region for capacity building for SSR, discussed how each of the organizations address SSR and capacity building in Latin America & the Caribbean through training, education and awareness, current stakeholders and initiatives, and conducted a mapping exercise to understand and recognize gaps, as well as to improve synergies.

The participants also shared information on future regional SSR activities, conferences and events, and discussed how the partnering organizations can better communicate these events to stakeholders and the greater Internet community.

This was a good opportunity to use the friendly and collaborative environment of the Casa de Internet in Montevideo, to share information and learn from colleagues in our respective organizations, build ties and trust. This should allow our organizations to make further progress on the initiatives in the LAC Strategy and DNS capacity building for the region.
